Why we send salawat
The Qur'an (33:56) tells believers to send blessings and greetings of peace upon the Prophet ﷺ. The tradition describes what comes back to the one who does:
- • Mercy returned many times over on whoever sends blessings.
- • Worries lightened and shortcomings forgiven.
- • Nearness to the Prophet ﷺ on the Day of Judgement.
- • Your greeting reaches him, and is answered.
Summarised from the Qur'an and hadith collections of Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Nasa'i.
